A Foray into Fall Style

By Dorothy Scarborough

Though the leaves have yet to change and wearing anything below my knees gives me heatstroke, the September issues of all the major magazines came out weeks ago, and the clothes within them were determined months ago. Now we’re giving you an edit of all our favorite styles and pieces.

This summer, we saw an even stronger resurgence of last year’s Bridget Bardot style. We saw bag like baskets (like this great cheap one from Amazon), bouffants and denim overalls. So going into fall, it should make all the sense that we are seeing structural mod berets (aux parisiennes), in leather and wool and without pattern or decoration.

Here are some of our favorites:

Nike Cortezs

The shoe you’ve seen all over instagram continues on: the nike cortez (which is really just a Forest Gump shoe) is coming back hard. My personal preference is leather or nylon, but you can get them in suede as well. My preference for coloring is red and blue.

Giant Houndstooth Blazers

Most people saw this coming a mile away, what with the resurgence of 90s comedies like Will and Grace (not to mention the continuos pleading for a Friends movie), but blazers – big and chunky à la Dianna, Princess of Whales are coming back in a big way. Bonus points if you wear a skirt suit.

Here’s what you are going to see all over the insta-girls this fall.

If you told me this time last year that I would be lusting of loud floral dresses, I would have been sadly resigned to the notion. I’d like to say that I would have said hell no, but that is the way with the world of fashion.

Mother of Pearl

This one has gone sadly under-the-radar, but it’s certainly showing up in Gucci. And as we all know too well, if it shows up with Gucci, it will be everywhere in a minute.
